The stigma around mental health can cause many
to suffer in silence so now…….

It’s TIME to TALK!

Every day Australia loses 9 people to suicide & every year over 65,000 Australians make a suicide attempt.

We are now no longer just talking about the military or our emergency services like Police, Fire & Ambulance, mental health is our next global pandemic, if not already.

The World Health Organisation has predicted that by 2030, Mental Health disorders will be the leading cause of illness and injury globally.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics national survey of Mental Health & Wellbeing (2020-21) estimates that 46% of Australians aged between 16-85 have experienced or will experience a mental health disorder during their lifetime – That is nearly 1 in 2 people.

Awareness isn’t the problem, the lack of early intervention action is.

We as a nation, are more aware of the Mental Health crisis facing Australians however the lack of ‘Early Intervention’ support means we have limited tools and knowledge on how to reach out before things get out of hand.

So what are we doing?

Couldn’t we make reaching out for support even easier before things get out of hand for those that need it?

REDSIX has…..

ABOUT US

REDSIX making reaching out for support EASIER

REDSIX is an Australian made ‘Mental Health’ initiative designed and created in 2018 by Australian Army veteran, Mike Handley, from lived experience in one of the highest suicide risk demographics globally, the military.

After nearly 7 years’ service in the Army and 2 overseas deployments, Mike’s experienced common issues when leaving the military, from withdrawal, social isolation, difficulty in finding employment and eventually PTSD, depression, anxiety, alcohol addiction through to suicide ideology.

I am the co-founder of veteran charity PTSD Resurrected, I have witnessed the Red 6 app support many veterans over the past few years. In fact, I have supported individuals who graduated our course and added me as a support team member on the app. These people were in real mental strife suffering suicidal ideation but managed to reach out for support through the app. As a result, they are still here today. This app works and I highly recommend it to anyone that has served, and I truly hope it is expanded to support people from all service backgrounds including the police, fire, ambulance and the wider civilian community.

The REDSIX Challenge Coin a symbol of resilience and unwavering strength, and I want to share with you the importance of receiving one.

The REDSIX Challenge Coin is a silent reminder that you are never alone.

We got your six
The challenge coin sat in the palm of my hand, its weight reassuring me of its presence. I closed my fingers around it tightly and breathed in deeply. It was a symbol of resilience, a testament to my strength and the challenges I had overcome.

But it wasn’t just about me. This coin was meant to be passed on, to lend its support to someone else who needed it just as much as I did. And when that time came, I would know. I would feel it in my bones, a pull towards someone who needed my strength.

But for now, the coin was mine to hold. It was a reminder that I was never alone, that even in the darkest moments, someone had my back. I could reach into my pocket, feel its ridges and edges under my fingers, and know that there was always hope.

So I held onto the coin, letting its weight anchor me to the present. And when the time came, I would pass it on, a beacon of resilience shining bright for the next person who needed it.
